VIPCA SUCCESS STORIES

KASHEEM SEXIOUS
Marine Apprentice

Kasheem Sexious is an apprentice currently working at the St. Thomas Yacht Club. From day one of being accepted into the program, he gained hands on experience and training on different boats. He remarks that after completing the five-week intensive “Marine Apprenticeship” program he had many opportunities to work with different marine companies and maintain good relationships with employers to increase the chance of employment after completion of the program. Kasheem excitedly shared, “This is the best thing to do right now; if you love the sea, this is the best place to be.” In addition to learning how to maintain and sail boats, Kasheem also assists with training new apprentices. His long-term goal is to work on a cruise line

SIERRA LEVANGIE
Able Seaman Apprentice

Sierra LeVangie is an Able Seaman apprentice and currently works with Stormy Pirates Charters.
She has always loved being in the water and was introduced to the program through her family. Sierra recounts her training experience with, “I’ve learned how difficult and complex it is to work on boats including all of the excursions, swimming lessons, coaching, and teaching the dynamics of sailing.” Sierra believes that being on the water is a career that she’ll continue and has a strong passion for. Her long-term goal is hosting events, delivering boats, and getting her captain’s license.
